An alternate 'working' title for this painting was 'Where the fawk are my parents?!'. I mean that sincerely and with humour.

Life after loosing your parents is very different. Naturally it's a sad time but also deeply contemplative. It is the closest we come to mortality and so you have to wonder, where on earth / beyond earth (hopefully) do they / we go?

The notion they are together seems quare and fantastical to me. I am deeply curious about it  - what comes next?Is there life beyond the veil etc

The most comforting way, I've found, to digest my parents physical absence is to look for them in this world. That is, the essence of them or something elemental that gives context or perspective to their passing. The cycling of the seasons - Autumn's climactic letting go and Spring's bountifulness are both a balm and an inspiration.

The Great Divide, life's greatest mystery is only a breath away and yet the most abstract of concepts - it's lends itself entirely to our imagination. I choose to feel hopeful about what lies beyond.  For me, nature persists.
