The Outliers – A Prologue - 2019

Inspired by Norman Gladwell's book of the same name, The Outliers (title painting) was one of my first larger studio paintings - it was at this point they got a bit too large to take outside. I was listening to the audiobook as I painted and upon hearing Gladwell's notion of 10,000 hours (dispelling 'genius' in favour of 10,000 hours practice) I realised I had probably crossed the 10k threshold and earned  a couple of stripes as an artist. Upon reflection this was the start of a maturity in my work, there was a noted development in my visual language and I started to get more comfortable with scale and painting from a more personal landscape.
